Getting to the Workshop
The Workshop in Early American History and Culture is held at the University of Georgia, approximately 70 miles east-northeast of Atlanta.
The Workshop will be held in LeConte Hall, the primary building of the History Department at the University of Georgia.
Getting to the Workshop from outside Athens:
From the West via I-85 or I-20 (Atlanta)
1. From northeast and central Atlanta:
Take I-85 north to GA-316, exit 106, near Lawrenceville. Follow GA-316 east
< 40 miles>. Shortly before entering Athens, GA-316 ends and the road
continues as Epps Bridge Road. Take Epps Bridge Road <2.5 miles> until
it merges with US-78 (Business) east, also called Atlanta Highway and Broad
Street. Follow US-78 (Business) east into town<3.2 miles>. After passing
the Holiday Inn and the northern edge of campus, turn right onto Jackson Street,
proceed to the North Campus Parking Deck where visitors may park for a fee.
Exit the garage and walk across Jackson Street, go left away from downtown,
and follow the sidewalk past the main library. LeConte Hall will be the last
building on the right before reaching the corner between Jackson and Baldwin.

2. From southeast Atlanta:
Take I- 20 east to Conyers and turn onto GA-138 east at exit 82. Follow GA-138
east <19 miles> until it terminates at US-78 and take US-78 east <16
miles>. When US-78 east intersects with GA-316, take GA-316 east <3 miles>.
Shortly before entering Athens, GA-316 ends and the road continues as Epps Bridge
Road. Take Epps Bridge Road <2.5 miles> until it merges with US-78 (Business)
east, also called Atlanta Highway and Broad Street. Follow US-78 (Business)
east into town <3.2 miles>. After passing the Holiday Inn and the northern
edge of campus, turn right onto Jackson Street, proceed to the North Campus
Parking Deck where visitors may park for a fee. Exit the garage and walk across
Jackson Street, go left away from downtown, and follow the sidewalk past the

From the South via US-441
As US-441 north approaches Athens, take exit 15. At the end of the exit ramp
turn left onto Milledge Avenue. Follow Milledge Avenue approximately 1.4 miles
until it intersects with Lumpkin Street and turn right onto Lumpkin Street.
Immediately before this intersection is a Waffle House restaurant. Continue
on Lumpkin Street approximately 1.4 miles and turn right onto Broad Street.
Continue one block to Jackson Street. Turn right onto Jackson Street, proceed
to the North Campus Parking Deck where visitors may park for a fee. Exit the
garage and walk across Jackson Street, go left away from downtown, and follow
the sidewalk past the main library. LeConte Hall will be the last building on
the right before reaching the corner between Jackson and Baldwin.

From the North via US-441
Take US-441 south from its intersection with I-85 at exit 149 near Commerce
<21 miles>. Approaching Athens, leave US-441 south at its intersection
with US-129 and GA-10 and proceed straight on Martin Luther King Parkway (a
two-lane road) <0.4 miles>. At its intersection with College Avenue, turn
right and follow College Avenue <0.9 miles> until it terminates in town
at Broad Street. Turn left onto Broad Street and at the next intersection turn
right onto Jackson Street. Proceed to the North Campus Parking Deck where visitors
may park for a fee. Exit the garage and walk across Jackson Street, go left
away from downtown, and follow the sidewalk past the main library. LeConte Hall
will be the last building on the right before reaching the corner between Jackson
and Baldwin.

From the East via US-78
When approaching Athens on US-78 west, continue on US-78 (Business) west at
the Athens Perimeter Road. No turn is necessary. US-78 (Business) west will
traverse Oak Street, Oconee Street and Broad Street <1.3 miles>. In town,
turn left onto Jackson Street, proceed to the North Campus Parking Deck where
visitors may park for a fee. Exit the garage and walk across Jackson Street,
go left away from downtown, and follow the sidewalk past the main library. LeConte
Hall will be the last building on the right before reaching the corner between
Jackson and Baldwin.

To south campus UGA Visitor's Center
The UGA
Visitor's Center "photo" directions will provide visual driving
clues along Athens area thoroughfares to the campus. However, the Center is
on south campus approximately three miles from LeConte Hall, which is located
on north campus (and adjacent to downtown Athens).
